Frequently asked questions.
Whats is the process to getting a cavoodle?
Our puppies are offered to our waitlist families. We encourage families to come in person at around 4 weeks of age to choose a puppy. You are given regular updates and photos of your puppy and it is ready to go home at eight weeks. All our puppies come with Vaccination certificate, microchip information and a detailed puppy handbook. A puppy pack includes a bed, travel crate, lead and collar, food and water bowls a toy and scented blanket. We also send home food that the puppy has been raised on as well as other food samples and treats.
What does a cavoodles diet consist of?
We believe in the motto ‘you are what you eat’ and feed only premium quality food to our parents and puppies. Their diet consists of real meat sources e.g. chicken, beef, pork & fish, as well as egg, steamed vegetables and supplements such as oils, yogurt, pre-and probiotics and barley grass. Treats are kept to non-processed natural chews e.g. dehydrated, chicken, breast, liver, goat horns, cow ears etc. Our favourite brand of kibble is Eureka and our pups are started on Royal Canin.
How often do you groom your cavoodle?
Cavoodles are surprisingly low maintenance with grooming you just need a regular system. Being a low shed low odour breed bathing can be kept to a minimum, usually once a month. We like to do a hygiene groom after bathing, which includes trimming the face, especially around the eyes and the rear end for cleaner toileting. All body trims are usually done 2 to 3 times yearly depending on your preference for coat length and seasons e.g. we like them shorter in summer. It’s important to check nails don’t grow too long, especially dew claws. These are easily trimmed with a pair of nail clippers. We also regularly check in our dogs ears and also trim the hair under the ear to increase airflow. Should your puppy develop a mat in its coat the easiest solution is to snip it out. Regular brushing of the tail and ears will help prevent matting.
How big do cavoodles get?
The size of a cavoodle will vary depending on its parents size and also it’s ancestry. It’s possible for small parents to have a larger puppy and vice versa due to the varying sizes and weights of the origin breeds, namely Toy Poodles and Cavaliers. As we move up the generations away from these origin breeds size consistency and predictability will become easier. At Cavoodles Tasmania, we are currently at second and third generation so we can usually give a good prediction estimate of each puppies adult size and weight. Most puppies size will be similar to its parents. our Toy litters are usually expected to reach around 3-5kg and our mini litters 5-9kg.
What does ENS and ESI mean?
ENS stands for early neurological stimulation, and ESI stands for early sent introduction. Studies have shown that early stimulation in a puppies first few weeks of life help develop strong neuron connections in the brain and enable it to cope with stressful situations and environments more easily as an adult. Daily handling and exercises, strengthen the human puppy bond, as well as familiarising it with having nails trimmed, teeth checked and grooming routines. We raise our pups in our home to enable them to be familiar to household sounds, tv, music, kitchen clatter, vacuuming etc. This all comes together to enable it to settle into your home with an easy smooth transition. We aim to raise confident, happy and healthy puppies that become loving family members and are a pleasure to own.
Are our cavoodles hypoallergenic?
Not all Cavoodles coat traits are created equally and many breeders do not understand coat traits properly. This is why we pride ourselves in our program of DNA testing our parent dogs and carefully selecting and matching them to produce litters of puppies that come with genetic guarantee for quality coats. We are able to provide the gold standard in hypo-allergenic coat traits in Cavoodles. This namely, is a double furnished zero shed marker dog. All three furnished coat types, shaggy, fleece and wool can have examples of hypo- allergenic dogs, the curl is merely cosmetic. If you have an allergy suffer in your household, please let us know and we can recommend one of our gold standard puppies to your family.
